| Basel - Lonza announced today that a company sponsored clinical study conducted at Ball State University (Indiana, USA), has found that L-Carnitine L-Tartrate supplementation significantly helps weekend warriors during their recovery from high intensity exercise. Weekend warriors or recreational athletes typically experience soreness and stiffness in exercised muscles following an extended lay-off from exercise. |

Dr. William Kraemer, Principal Investigator for the study points out that "a speedy and less painful recovery is important for all people who exercise, be it regularly or irregularly, as recovery affects how quickly a person can return to exercising optimally."
L-Carnitine is a vitamin-like nutrient which is essential for turning fat into energy in the human body. Due to previous clinical findings, L-Carnitine is a popular supplement among physically active people who supplement with L-Carnitine to help improve their performance, while simultaneously delaying the onset of fatigue. Extensive research has discovered that L-Carnitine has cardioprotective properties and studies also indicate that L-Carnitine is useful as part of a weight management program.
The present clinical study used a balanced, placebo-controlled, cross-over design in which ten healthy active men took either placebo or L-CARNIPURE® L-Carnitine L-Tartrate (equivalent to 2 g L-Carnitine) for 3 weeks, prior to a controlled exercise session. "We are extremely excited by the results of the study which indicate that L-Carnitine L-Tartrate supplementation, prior to high intensity exercise, is effective in assisting recovery, allowing for less tissue damage, decreased production of free radicals and significantly less muscle soreness following the exercise," said Dr. Kraemer.
Dr. Andrea O. Schaffhauser, Manager Scientific Affairs & Market Development, Lonza Ltd., commented, 'We are pleased to be presenting this breakthrough data to the scientific committee.'
